Jay Walter
General Manager JWH Group
From an early age, Jay has felt he was always destined to be a part of the building industry as he grew up surrounded by Lego, building numerous cities on the Activity room floor and building plastic model kits. Following a path similar to his father, Jay began his working career at Midland Brick (a subsidiary of Boral) in a Marketing role in 2006. A 5 month backpacking trip with (now wife) Sally saw him return to Perth with a passion to not just be in the building industry with materials and products, but be part of an organisation where he could see homes being built every day. Later in 2006 Jay joined Plunkett Homes in a Business Development role that further fuelled his passion for working in the industry.
In 2007 an opportunity arose for Jay to become General Manager for The Rural Building Company, looking after one of the Group’s prominent brands and originally created by one of Jay’s mentors, Ian Holloway. In 2012 Jay moved to Head Office to work in a General Manager capacity for the JWH Group entity, working alongside his father and the JWH Exec Group.
Jay completed a Bachelor of Commerce (Major’s in Management, Marketing & HR) and Bachelor of Behavioural Science (Minor in Counselling) at the University of Notre Dame in Fremantle and is a member of the Perth Chapter of the Entrepreneur’s Organisation. Jay has a true passion for the industry believing there isn’t anything better than building homes for families, and being a contributor to the changing West Australian landscape through housing and projects. Aside from the industry, Jay loves spending time with his wife and family taking road trips where they can, his two dogs, and American muscle cars. Since 2011, Jay has also become a passionate Variety ‘Basher’, having taken part in three Variety Bashes in a 1976 Ford Fairmont, which has seen him be a top 10 fundraiser every year.
