Julian Walter
Born in Perth Western Australia to Polish parents, Julian was educated at St Louis School by the Jesuits. His tertiary education consisted of a Bachelor of Business Degree from WA Institute of Technology (now Curtin University) with a major in Marketing.
Commencing his career as a Trade Representative with major brick group Calsil-Besser, Julian then joined Perth’s most established builder Plunkett Homes, as Assistant to the Marketing Director; a role which expanded considerably over the coming years.
After seven years with Plunkett, Julian then joined AV Jennings Homes, a publicly listed and nationwide housing group.
A difference of opinion on the future of AV Jennings in Western Australia led Julian to adopt his own business plan, culminating in the formation of J-Corp Pty Ltd in 1983. Over the following twenty years, brands and subsidiaries were added to J-Corp. After reviewing future direction, Julian sold his half of J-Corp to BGC (Australia) Pty Ltd in 2003, to start what is today Western Australia’s third largest home building group, JWH Group Pty Ltd.
It has been Julian’s leadership, humility and passion of building homes for West Australian families that has attracted people from all over to work at JWH Group. This is reflected in the JWH Club, a club for staff who have worked for 10 years or more with Julian with the club now reaching over 150 members.
Julian has been married for over thirty years and has two adult children who now work in the group. Apart from a number of philanthropic interests, including a past board member of the Princess Margaret Hospital Foundation, he also has a penchant for older things.
A keen aviator and boatie, Julian flew his 1941 Stearman bi-plane across Australia in 2005 and spends time entertaining family, friends and staff on his personal boat. Julian and his wife Cheryl have also rallied an open 1921 Rolls Royce Silver Ghost tourer around Australia for the past decade. He also “pedals” around in a number of other pre-war English cars.
